Araghchi Speaks with Pakistan’s FM After India Talks
WANA (May 08) – Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi held a phone conversation with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar on Thursday evening to discuss the latest security developments in South Asia amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan.
Araghchi, who is in New Delhi for high-level diplomatic consultations with Indian officials, emphasized the importance of restraint and dialogue during the call, highlighting the need for both countries to prevent further deterioration of the situation and to work toward de-escalation.
The Pakistani foreign minister, for his part, briefed Araghchi on the current regional dynamics and reiterated Pakistan’s position, stressing that Islamabad does not seek to escalate tensions.
Tensions between India and Pakistan escalated sharply after India carried out targeted missile strikes on Tuesday night against what it described as “terrorist bases” in Pakistan-administered Kashmir. The Indian government announced that its military had struck nine locations in the region, claiming the sites were being used as terrorist hideouts.
The strikes came in response to a deadly terrorist attack last week in the Pahalgam area of Indian-administered Kashmir, which killed at least 27 people. Indian officials have labeled the incident a terrorist attack and accused Pakistan of involvement. Reports indicate that after India’s missile strikes, Pakistan has also responded to India’s actions.
Previously, Pakistani Foreign Minister Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar had strongly condemned India’s actions, calling them a blatant violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty, the United Nations Charter, and international law. “This aggression endangers regional peace,” he warned.
